Welcome to Baraboo, a small town in the mountains of Wisconsin, once home to the Ringling Brothers Circus and a place where everyone knows and trusts everyone – until it turns out the town has served for forty years as a dumping ground for every murderer, swindler, and crook in the witness protection program. „Witness Point,“ as Baraboo was dubbed by the previous marshal, becomes a conspiracy hotspot as every resident eyes their neighbor with new suspicion.

Things don't improve when the new marshal, sent to help beleaguered Sheriff „Kite“ Calhoon, is found without his head and hands in the town square – just before the annual harvest festival. Fortunately, another marshal arrives. Unfortunately, she explains that she is the only marshal dispatched. The identity of the dismembered man becomes another piece of the puzzle as the town descends into chaos.
