Just as the case of the missing Laapeerians began to come together, the Cerritos was severely damaged in a skirmish with an unknown ship and had to return to Federation space - without the away team.

Repairs to the Cerritos will take weeks, but Captain Freeman and Mariner do not want to stand by while a stranded away team needs rescuing - especially since it is under Boimler's command. Together they hatch a plan for an audacious heist: they want to steal a decommissioned starship and launch a bold rescue mission before the unknown attackers wipe out Laapoonia - and their crewmates.
