What doesn't kill you makes you stronger – at least that's what healthy people say. Valentine Virago has fought with her health all her life. But interested parties want her back under their supervision and send goons in hazmat suits. They're led by Jono, her one-time caregiver and possible love interest. He offers her a place at a private clinic run by his parents. For Val, however, institutions are nothing: what others see as a safe haven feels to her like a prison – and who wants to be locked up when you're already trapped in your own body?
