Si Spurrier and Mike Dowling continue their genre-resistant series as Monday, Sara and Raf investigate an unusual Southern barbecue restaurant, expecting evidence of another inexplicable phenomenon. What they find instead is a grisly genetic experiment involving a disgraced scientist, a son with a body count and a barn whose contents are best discovered on the page. The series keeps refusing to settle into any single category, which remains its chief pleasure.
