In a world built on conformity, there is little room for dreamers. Student “Pizza Face” is one of the worst in his class and dreams only of one day opening a video game store. When he is summoned to the school counselor’s office together with rebellious Mims - a manga fan who could not care less about the system - their entire future is suddenly on the line: if they fail in this decisive school year, their parents are allowed to literally kill them.

The pressure of this bizarre new policy weighs more and more heavily on the teenagers, while their parents seem to gradually transform into monsters. Can their own parents really kill them if they fail the class? Pizza Face and Mims stick together to defy the existential threat - but the situation quickly spirals out of control. The race for good grades becomes a fight for sheer survival in a conformist society that leaves no room for imagination.

Infantoms is a modern coming-of-age horror by writer Jim Bishop (part of a thematic trilogy about childhood and the transition into adulthood) and also a homage to manga and to our inner child. This intimate graphic novel sheds light on the hurdles of social integration, the excesses of a performance-obsessed system, and the value of self-confidence and friendship - a powerful album that resonates long after the last page.
