Return to Tomioka

Ever since the Fukushima nuclear catastrophe, siblings Osamu and Akiko have been orphans. They live with their grandmother Bâ-chan, far from their old home, where no one is allowed to live anymore.

While Akiko slowly settles into her new everyday life, Osamu withdraws more and more from people and seeks closeness to the Yokai – spirits only he can see. When Bâ-chan also dies, the children are once again on their own.

To give their grandmother peace, Osamu convinces his sister to lay her ashes to rest at the family altar. To do so, they have to return to Tomioka – right into the heart of the forbidden zone. A moving story about grief, courage and the unseen companions between the worlds.
