Jordan Banks, a seventh-grader, loves nothing more than drawing cartoons about his life. But instead of sending him to the art school he longs for, his parents enroll him in a prestigious private school known for its strong academic performance — where Jordan happens to be one of the few Black students in his grade.

On his daily commute from his apartment in Washington Heights to the upscale Riverdale Academy Day School, Jordan feels torn between two worlds — and doesn't quite belong to either. Can he learn to navigate the new school culture, keep his neighborhood friends and stay true to himself?
