Lulu is the daughter of a lion tamer and lives with her father Roberto at the circus in Naples. When a great fire destroys the circus and her best friend, the lion Cyrus, dies in it, she makes a brave decision: she runs away to South Africa – where there are lions.

At the last second, Roberto finds his daughter on a freighter, and together they reach Africa. But the continent of the 1960s is marked by injustice: when Roberto wants to protect a Black boy from unscrupulous police officers, he ends up in prison himself. Lulu and her new friend Nelson must muster all their courage, hatch a plan and free Roberto.
