Fall River, 4 August 1892: a fourteen-year-old sees something nobody believes.

Charlie Churchill knows he must put his childish stories behind him and be the man of the house. But that morning he witnesses a horrific act at his next-door neighbours' house, the Bordens — and no one believes he saw one of the Bordens attacked on the second floor, not even when Andrew and Abby Borden are found dead later that day. Charlie is determined to use what he witnessed to help the police, from a mysterious figure burying something in the woods at night to the whispers he overhears from the Borden sisters and staff.
